Leeway was rescued with the help of the Monterey County Animal Services. He’d been dumped in a drainage ditch and couldn’t climb out. By the time he was found, he was in bad shape, so weak and dehydrated that he had to be brought to the shelter on a stretcher. But Leeway was a fighter. He regained enough strength to walk again, even though it was clear he had a limited life expectancy. GSRNC took him into the Thulani Program and placed him with fosterer Lt. Pat Skora, where he quickly became a local favorite and a hit with the neighborhood kids. After two months, made up of some great days, some good days, and some not-so-good days, but all in the loving company of Pat, Leeway went downhill rapidly, stopped eating and could not stand. He was helped to the Rainbow Bridge by vets at Adobe Animal Hospital, his foster dad at his side.
